President's MessageJune 2023
Greetings! It was wonderful to see many of you this past April in Austin at Connect. We had a successful annual meeting as well as our first ever TCEP Legislative Day that was well attended. At our annual meeting we elected new board members: Drs. Jessica Best, Julian Mahler and Ciaura Brown as well as re-elected Drs. Marcus Sims, Bryan Dunn and AJ Kirk. We also elected our medical student board member, Abbey Pastorelle. We are excited to welcome all of our new board members! Dr. Bryan Dunn was also elected by the Board of Directors to the Executive Committee to serve as our new Secretary. A special thank you goes to Dr. Sterling Overstreet, our new Past President, for his hard work and dedication to our College over the last year. The regular 88th Legislative Session has officially come to an end, and medicine fared well. Although Governor Abbott has already called for a special session, it will not affect medicine; rather it will deal with property tax relief and border security. We as physicians can rest comfortably knowing that tort law remains safely intact. I want to thank all of the members of our Texas Legislative Advocacy Council as well as our lobbyist team, Imperium PA, for their countless hours of work during this past session. They have worked tirelessly to ensure that medicine came out ahead this session. Our next Board of Directors meeting will be July 13-14 in Houston. The board will be addressing a number of issues including our strategic plan for this upcoming year. We welcome all members to attend and hope to see you there. |
