President's Message

August 2023

Sandra Williams, DO, MPH, FACEP
TCEP President

TCEP has had a very productive summer, despite the incredibly hot weather we have been having in Texas this year. We held our strategic planning meeting in Houston this past July. There we worked on ways to improve our communication with members throughout the year, starting with our annual report for the 2022-2023 year that you should have already received via the Engaged platform. Throughout the rest of the year you will see an improved social media presence where we are able to highlight important updates and changes to our practice as well as spotlights on members and our amazing emergency medicine residency programs across the state. We also plan to continue with our residency visits this year and welcome the help from all interested members; just let us know!

Like many of you, TCEP has not been immune to inflation these past several years. We have done our best as a college to avoid raising dues due to sound fiscal planning and investing in prior years. However, this year the Board has had to make the difficult decision to raise dues by approximately 12%. We hope all of you will continue to see the value of TCEP and remain loyal members. As a board we will continue to work diligently for you as well as all emergency medicine physicians in the great state of Texas.

And after a wonderful five years with us, we are sad to report that our Executive Director Beth Brooks will be retiring later this year. After an extensive search, we are happy to announce that our new Executive Director, Jill Sutton, will be starting with us just after the annual ACEP meeting in Philadelphia. We hope you all will welcome her to the TCEP family later this year. And for those of you who will be attending ACEP 23 in Philadelphia this October, I look forward to seeing you there!
