A farewell letter from TCEP Executive Director Beth Brooks, CAE

It is with mixed feelings that I compile this Emphasis newsletter. This is because, after 43 years in association management—the last six of which I proudly served as your TCEP Executive Director—the time has come for me to “rewire”, effective Oct. 31.

I was privileged to serve several professional associations in my career but can honestly say my tenure at TCEP was the most satisfying. You are an amazingly talented group of individuals and your dedication to your work is inspiring. It has been an honor to work with and for you.

There are so many of you to thank, starting with the past and current Presidents. From day one, you were there to offer wise counsel. I owe each of you a debt of gratitude and offer special thanks to Dr. Gerard Troutman who hired me ( along with the search committee). I will always be grateful to Dr. Dan Peckenpaugh who guided me through the challenging first months on the job way. I will miss our regular, (lengthy) phone calls and zoom visits. There are so many volunteers, Board members, Program Directors, committee members, medical students, and TLAF’s that I have enjoyed working with and learning from … thank you all for your support.

During the past six years, TCEP has regained its reputation as a strong state association. Policies and processes have been developed to assure the organization, Board and staff can operate efficiently and effectively in the years ahead. Financially, the organization is strong with healthy reserves, and the investments are being carefully monitored and managed.

Every year brought new challenges, but none as significant as the Covid pandemic. Working with you during this unprecedented time was truly inspirational. I will always be in awe of you and the work you do. It is my desire to find a volunteer opportunity that may keep me engaged with Emergency Medicine in some way.

It is with deepest gratitude that I thank you for this opportunity to serve you. It has truly been a privilege to work with each of you. And now I am off for a walk, a long walk…
