MSC Update

August 2024

TCEP MSC members,

My name is Katherine, and I am honored to be serving my second year as the MSC’s Secretary-Editor. Along with the rest of the MSC, I am so excited to give you an update on what we’ve been up to so far.

Although the weather doesn’t quite show it yet, summer is winding down and we inch nearer and nearer to application and interview season for the class of 2025. As my fellow fourth year medical students and I make our way through this season of sub-internships, the TCEP MSC’s Meet the Program series provides another avenue for students to learn about the fantastic emergency medicine residency programs here in Texas. We have partnered with nearly every program in Texas to hold informal, virtual, hour-long sessions during which students can meet and interact with representatives from each program.

So far, we have held several incredible sessions with amazing student turnout. While each session is as unique as the program running it, they typically begin with a presentation by program leadership, followed by an open Q&A session. We are lucky to have so many strong programs here in Texas, and these sessions are an excellent way for students to get a solid overview. Further, the ability to have questions answered directly by administration, faculty, and current residents allows insight into the distinct culture, values, and feel of each program.

Our goal at the TCEP MSC is to provide valuable resources and support for Texas medical students pursuing emergency medicine. Though these sessions are geared mainly towards fourth year medical students, we welcome attendance and involvement from students of all years as you learn and prepare for your application seasons. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity the Meet the Program series provides. You can find the full schedule and sign up for the sessions here. We look forward to seeing you all there!

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or feedback, please reach out to us any time at [email protected].
